Iggy Pop reformed the Stooges in 2003 and they released an album of all new songs, The Weirdness. Iggy Pop's song, "Lust For Life" has been used as the theme song for Carnival Cruise Lines for nine years as of this date. Besides appearing in 16 movies as an actor, the songs of Iggy Pop have also been included in 18 soundtracks, including Trainspotting, Pretty Woman, Crocodile Dundee 2 and Repo Man. Although the Stooges studio albums did not sell particularly well, the songs themselves and the band's live performances proved to be vastly influential in the world of music. After witnessing Jim Morrison's wild antics on stage with the Doors, Iggy Pop soon began to push the boundaries of stage performance himself. Inspired by both Chicago blues and louder, wilder bands such as the MC5 and the Sonics, this band of Iggy's soon became known as simply the Stooges, and history was soon to be made. After moving to Chicago so he could learn more about the blues, he eventually formed the Psychedelic Stooges and started calling himself Iggy. Often referred to as "The Godfather of Punk" and "The Rock Iguana", Iggy Pop actually began his musical career as a drummer in various bands around Ann Arbor, Michigan. Iggy Pop, real name James Osterberg, has been a true rock and roll legend for over three decades. Ron Asheton, bass, backing vocals on "Penetration" and "Raw Power" James Williamson, guitar, backing vocals on "Penetration" Iggy Pop, lead vocals, celesta on "Penetration", piano on "Gimme Danger" and "Raw Power", tambourine on "Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell" and "Raw Power", backing vocals on "Raw Power" Result: Sublime Motor City mayhem." Suddenly, Raw Power was no longer a solo album it was to become the third and most celebrated Stooges album of them all. Together with brother Scott on drums, the two made it work and provided a functional foundation. Ron Asheton had been the Stooges guitarist on the group’s previous two albums, but he was reluctantly relegated to bass. Auditioning numerous English rhythm sections, Pop and Williamson opted for the sturdy thunder of the Asheton brothers. He went to London and called guitarist James Williamson, another Michigan native, and the two began putting ideas together and writing material. The future of The Stooges hung in balance when Pop signed with David Bowie’s management to make a new record. "Raw Power" was originally intended as an Iggy Pop solo album and a comeback for the then down-and-out rock and roll wild man. Although rather than grinding to a halt, Iggy & the Stooges appeared ready to explode like an ammunition dump. By most accounts, tensions were high during the recording of "Raw Power", and the album sounds like the work of a band on its last legs.
